Sesecha is a Sesotho word that specifically refers to the blanket worn by young men during their initiation ceremony (a rite of passage to manhood).

Like all Basotho blankets, the sesecha blanket has deep cultural significance, offering warmth and protection in the high-altitude environment of Lesotho.

The blankets are distinct for their unique designs, bold colours, and characteristic vertical pin-stripe, which traditionally indicates the correct way to wear the blanket.
